Starr Eastside Academy was founded on the principle that all students are capable of greatness. It is our responsibility as adults to create a caring and supportive environment which propels our young people to future success both academically, socially, and emotionally. These are the cornerstones of our school and the foundation of our Mission.

The mission of Starr Eastside Academy is to prepare students for academic mastery, college, work and life.  Through our mission, each child will develop:

  • Strong character, self-confidence, and a deep awareness of their own strengths, interests, and ability.

  • A great academic foundation in the core subjects

  • The values and work ethic necessary for success in college, work and the community

Core Values

We strive to always do our best and focus on accomplishing our goals.

We treat other people like we want to be treated. We take care of our environment so others do the same.

We recognize our strengths, learn from our mistakes and assume ownership for our actions.

We work hard and never give up. Even when the work is challenging, we will succeed.

We take care of each other. We help each other. We do not hurt each other physically or emotionally.

In January 2013, Starr Educational Services, on behalf of the Starr Eastside Academy board, submitted a charter application to Central Michigan University. The application was officially approved in February 2013, and the SEA Board and SES team set to work to make this dream a reality.

Starr Eastside Academy will officially open its doors on September 8th, 2015. SEA is the first replication of Starr Detroit Academy which opened in 2012. SDA achieved record enrollment during its first three years, while the “Starr Model” is already demonstrating academic growth. During Starr’s SDA’s first and second year of operation Starr students made significant academic growth – achieving 1+ years’ growth in Reading and Math.
